Thanksgiving Turkey and Sweet Potatoes
Thanksgiving day was bright and sunny here in SoCal.
The turkey (16 pounds gross*) went in the cooker at 7:30 a.m.
Starting temperature was 45º
Five hours later the Turkey was at 160º
Then 2 things happened:
1. The family ready to eat
2. A high cloud obscured the sun.
Solution: The bird was placed in a conventional oven for a few more minutes until the temperature was correct.
Sweet potatoes
4.5 pound gross
Scrubbed then rubbed with olive oil
Way done in 2 hours
Lessons learned:
You may have all day to cook but if the family meal is planned for noon - you have half a day to cook.
*gross weight includes the food and the pot
